Example Case Implementation Interference Rejection Combining (IRC)

Background

The purpose of Interference Rejection Combining (IRC) is to improve performance on the uplink in radio environments limited by interference.

IRC minimizes the disturbance from an interferer by combining the signal received on diverse antennas and suppressing the interfering signal.

IRC can improve the signal more efficiently than the basic RX diversity feature.
IRC can be used to increase capacity in a radio network limited in the uplink, improve speech quality, and increase data throughput in the uplink.
IRC gives improved speech quality, fewer dropped calls, and increased data throughput due to fewer re-transmissions.
IRC activation should improve KPI of Accessibility and retain ability


Existing Configuration Case
Most of SUPIRC settings in BSC properties have been active

Summary

IRC implementation were executed with trial period of 2 weeks and SDCCH Success rate has improved for all BSCs as a result of IRC activation,TCH Drop Rate and TNDROP has shown positive improvement for all BSCs
Data throughput (UL GPRS) is maintain for all BSC’s
There are invalid statistics already back to normal 
From 4 BSC’s of IRC trial, we found 93 Sites that cannot support IRC features, That need some upgrade to newer version of RBS.
IRC have already implemented in all BSC’s NPI.
